Days of Heaven at Secret Kazakh Sibinskie Lakes

We had to explain ourselves maybe to 10 drivers. Once you’re in Eastern Kazakhstan and you wish to have a swim in the lake, it better be Alakol Lake. Otherwise locals will give you a hard time describing its beauty and telling you how much you’re going to miss. It might be so, but if we would not reach other, planned by us, destination – Sibinskie Lakes, we would miss a real paradise!

Oskemen – Tour of our Favorite Kazakh City

Our time in the Oskemen city (Russian name: Ust-Kamenogorsk) in the east region of Kazakhstan, will always stay unique for us. The apartment that we found for a very cheap price, gave us an opportunity to live in the heart of a vibrant neighbourhood area. We bought a local beer straight from the tap to a plastic bottle (oh well…), enjoyed a chill time in our “home” and walked ourselves tired, wandering around in this special, not-so-famous place.

The wonders of the Charyn Canyon

Charyn Canyon is the true wonder of nature sculpted by wind and water – erosion happening for a million of years. We got there hitchhiking the last car with only visitors that evening. Though we experienced it in rather unique rainy weather, sunset rays appeared below the dark clouds and painted the rocks in beautiful shades of pink and red.

Trucker life on the Steppe – Rolling from Aktau to Aralsk

“Are the trucks going to Kazakhstan parked here?” Before we heard the answer, as always, group of truck drivers already gathered around us. They were going with another ferry, to Turkmenistan, trucks to Kazakhstan were parked in another place. No problem, it’s good to take a walk while waiting for the ferry which nobody really knows when will come (more about the sea route in another post).
